Based in the heart of Govanhill at Samaritan House, founded in 1974, Govanhill Housing Association has worked hard within the local community to improve living conditions.

gcdtlogoGovanhill Community Development Trust Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Govanhill Housing Association. It was set up in 1992 to develop initiatives supportive of but additional to those of the Association. Their mission is "to create opportunities for local people to improve and develop their own quality of life". The Trust is involved in areas other than housing, which contribute to the social, economic and environmental development of Govanhill.

Southside Studios are partners in the GBCT Art and Regeneration Group
Southside Studios provide studios and support for Glasgow based Artists. The studios are the first of its kind on the Southside of Glasgow where there is a lack of available inexpensive studio provision. Two years on, Southside Studios have 24 studio spaces, wireless internet, wood workshop, greenhouse, kitchen, pizza oven and gallery. We opened our permanent exhibition space called The Fridge Gallery in December 2006. The gallery will hold solo shows by studios artists and international artists. Visitors are welcome. We hope to see you at one of our openings for a slice of fresh pizza!

Memberships and Associations

GBCT is a Building Preservation Trust and a member of The Association of Preservation Trusts. A building preservation trust (BPT) is a charity whose main aims include the preservation and regeneration of historic buildings. BPTs belong to the United Kingdom Association of Building Preservation Trusts (APT), the membership and representative organisation for BPTs.

develtrustlogoGBCT is a Development Trust and a member of the Development Trust Association of Scotland. DTA Scotland was established in 2003 representing 107 full members and 20 associate members. DTA Scotland has a close working relationship with its sister organisation Development Trusts Association (England) and together with Development Trusts Association Wales, there is now a UK-wide network which has over 380 members. All members of DTA Scotland automatically receive membership of the UK-wide association.

We currently have 1180 member organisations across the UK and have been supporting community associations and similar organisations since 1945.One of our Trustees, Fatima Uygun is a member of the National Executive

 

GBCT is a member of SCVO. The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is the national body representing the voluntary sector. SCVO seeks to advance the values and shared interests of the voluntary sector. There are 45,000 voluntary organisations in Scotland involving around 130,000 paid staff and approximately 1.3 million volunteers.
