Govanhill Baths supports AIDS Memorial Quilt panel-making at Tramway

Govanhill Baths Community Trust is delighted to be supporting Tramway’s programme around the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt, helping to create a welcoming and accessible space for people to come together, share skills and make panels in memory of people lost to HIV and AIDS.

As part of the facilitated panel-making session, Govanhill Baths will provide sewing machines, equipment and practical support, working alongside original panel makers and artists. The workshop offers participants the opportunity to reflect on the person they are remembering and translate their memories, stories and feelings into a handmade textile panel. No previous sewing experience is needed, with support available throughout the process.

This collaboration reflects Govanhill Baths’ commitment to creativity, community and wellbeing, and the important role that making can play in bringing people together. Beyond the workshop itself, Govanhill Baths offers a nearby community sewing studio where participants can continue to develop their panels, take part in sewing sessions and stay connected through creative activity. We are proud to contribute to this significant moment as the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt is displayed in Scotland, helping to honour the lives and stories represented within it while creating opportunities for people in our community to connect, remember and create together.
