Govanhill Baths Archive has been set up to catalogue and make accessible a fascinating and truly unique collection of materials which reflect the wide and varied activities which have taken place in the Baths over the past 100 years, from its use as a municipal swimming baths and wash house.
1914–2000
1914 to 2000 Archive – most of the materials concerning Before Closure are fixtures and fittings left by the city council.
2001–2004
2001 to 2004 Archive – this section is home to all the Save Our Pool campaign materials.
2005 onward
2005 onward archive – the material in this section reflects the functions of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust (GBCT) and the many activities produced by the Trust’s projects.
Irish History Group
The Irish History Group was established in 2022 as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories.
WHO WE ARE
Govanhill Baths Archive has been set up to catalogue and make accessible a fascinating and truly unique collection of materials which reflect the wide and varied activities which have taken place in the Baths over the past 100 years, from its use as a municipal swimming baths and wash house.
The Archive documents the history of the occupation of Govanhill Baths by the Save Our Pool campaign and the development of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust (GBCT).
The next steps are garnering further human resources and funding to catalogue the whole collection and make it fully accessible at the Baths and online.
