The People’s Pantry
The People’s Pantry: 2025 in review
More than a community-led shop where members can access affordable, healthy, and culturally valued food, The People’s Pantry is part of a growing food justice movement, empowering people to feel confident about and connected to their food.
Through shared activities such as community meals, cooking workshops, and food growing, it strengthens wellbeing, celebrates cultural heritage, promotes sustainability, and makes sure food is a right, not a privilege!
THE PEOPLE’S PANTRY SHOP
Our community-led shop can be accessed by anyone who lives in the G41/G42 postcode areas for £6 a year. After joining, members can shop weekly for £6 and fill their baskets with purchases up to the value of £30.

Our membership places are currently full, but we are operating a waiting list. If you would like to be added to this, please either visit us in store or email your name and contact number. About Our Stock
We always have a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, a wide selection of dried goods, toiletries, and household items. We also stock chilled and frozen items which vary week by week. In an average year, we distribute over 75 tonnes of food (the equivalent of 187,000 meals), out of which 44 tonnes is rescued. Our stock is provided by Fareshare, a food redistribution charity, and by local supermarkets, food businesses, and growers.
HELP US PROVIDE GOOD FOOD FOR EVERYONE
Everyone deserves access to affordable, fresh, nutritious food, and The People’s Pantry is at the heart of making this possible. But with funding cuts and supermarket donations at an all-time low, it’s becoming an uphill struggle. Without support, this food community hub may not be able to continue. Together, we can ensure food stays a right, not a privilege, and that our community remains strong, connected, and resilient.
CARFIN STREET GARDENING PROJECT
Our growing project brings 43 street planters to life through hands-on planting, care, and harvesting all year round. Join our welcoming weekly drop-in sessions every Monday from 10am – 1pm, where you can get stuck in: sowing seeds, watering plants, and discovering how to grow delicious vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Open to everyone, whatever your experience, you can drop in for as long or as little as you like. We’re out in all weathers, so dress appropriately and come be part of a lively, hands-on community growing space!

THE HIDDEN KITCHEN
With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to put pressure on households to access freshly prepared home cooked food, The Hidden Kitchen has a dual purpose: it provides a social, supportive space for participants to cook together and then to share the meals with the community through The People’s Pantry. The cooking sessions take place at our partner, The Hidden Gardens, on Tuesdays from 10.00am – 1.00pm.
