Power to Prosper

Building community power. Creating change. Shaping our future.

Power to Prosper is a community organising project supporting people in Govanhill to build power, campaign for change and have a greater say in the decisions that affect their community.

Govanhill has a long history of people coming together to stand up for their communities and create change. Power to Prosper builds on that tradition by bringing people together to listen, build relationships, understand where power sits and organise around the issues that matter most to local people.

The Glasgow Hub is a partnership between Govanhill Baths, YCSA and Community Renewal, connected to the wider Power to Prosper network alongside organisations including the New Economics Foundation (NEF) and Runnymede Trust.

At the heart of the project is a simple belief: the people who live in a community should have a meaningful say in the decisions, investment and resources that shape their lives.

What are we working towards?

Through community listening, organising and collective action, we are campaigning for:

  • Better investment in local services
  • Fairer public funding
  • A community-controlled youth facility
  • Greater representation and influence for young people
  • A stronger voice for local residents in decisions affecting Govanhill

We want to create opportunities for residents and young people to identify the issues that matter to them, come together around shared concerns and build the collective power needed to influence decision-makers.

Why does it matter?

Too often, decisions about communities are made about people rather than with them.
Power to Prosper is about changing that. It is about building the confidence, relationships, knowledge and collective strength for local people to have a greater influence over what happens in their community — not just for today, but for the future.

We want to create opportunities for residents and young people to identify the issues that matter to them, come together around shared concerns and build the collective power needed to influence decision-makers.

This isn’t about speaking for Govanhill. It’s about supporting the people of Govanhill to speak, organise and act for themselves.
